CHILL Jnr Big Mountain Camp at Broken River

CHILL Junior Big Mountain Camp and Comp August 9 and 10th

Conditions permitting, Broken River will be hosting CHILL Junior Big Mountain Camp and Comp on August 9 and 10th. The camp is a stepping stone for young kiwi big mountain rippers to gain valuable experience and be mentored by experienced big mountain competitors.

The Camp is aimed at developing the skills required to compete in big mountain events. Coaches Ollie Hunt and Jamesa Hampton, both highly successful big mountain competitors, will team up and mentor budding competitors over the weekend and help prepare them for the real thing.

“We’ll be looking at all aspects of a competition day. From warming-up, to checking out snow conditions and making the best line selection” says Ollie Hunt. “Kids need to have the basic skills on a Big Mountain before going in a compand we’re here to help them learn those skills”.

Day One will be spent introducing participants to the Big Mountain environment, understanding the judging criteria and
competition format, and learning good strategies to help them perform well in a competition scenario.

Day Two starts will another coaching session in the morning followed by a Big Mountain Competition
in the afternoon where the kids can demonstrate what they’ve learnt over the weekend.

The Camp is an ideal lead-in the CHILL Big Mountain Comp at Craigieburn the following weekend.

Entry is open to ages 10 – 17 years, with all competitors requiring supervision.

Full details of the weekend can be found on the CHILL website.

What a fantastic opportunity for the juniors to develop their big mountain skills and spend time with other young rippers.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS WEEKEND HAS HAD TO BE CANCELLED DUE TO THE LACK OF SNOW, BUT WE'LL BE HOSTING IT AGAIN THIS TIME NEXT YEAR!
